Copyright Infringement Policy

Implemented: July 1, 2010

Information Technology reserves the right to deny network and internet access when legitimate copyright infringement claims are made against WWU operated public IP addresses.

The computer/network device is routed to a quarantined VLAN and a webpage explaining the offense is displayed when trying to resolve any public internet address.

The individual using the computer/network device must contact WWU's Information Technology department by calling (509) 527-2317. In most cases the technician can provide the name of the infringed work.

The computer must then be brought down to the Information Help Desk so that:

  • The infringing work can be removed
  • The torrent and/or file-sharing client can be removed

The port will then be re-enabled.

Second Offense:

The computer/network device is routed to a quarantined VLAN and a webpage explaining the offense is displayed when trying to resolve any public internet address.

The individual using the computer/network device must contact WWU's Information Technology department by calling (509) 527-2317. In most cases the technician can provide the name of the infringed work.

The computer must then be brought down to the Information Help Desk so that:

  • The infringing work can be removed
  • The torrent and/or file-sharing client can be removed
  • Computer owner must speak with the Network Administrator

The port remains disabled for two weeks from the date of inspection.

The individual using the computer/network device must contact WWU's Information Technology department by calling (509) 527-2317. In most cases the technician can provide the name of the infringed work.

The computer must then be brought down to the Information Help Desk so that:

  • The infringing work can be removed
  • The torrent and/or file-sharing client can be removed
  • Computer owner must speak with the Network Administrator
  • Further disciplinary action may be taken by Academic 政府

The port remains disabled for the remainder of the quarter or 8 weeks from the date of inspection, whichever is longer. 

* * *注意: If the user moves the computer to other physical ports prior to the removal of the infringed content, Information Technology reserves the right to disable those ports as well.
